Case Description
I need my teeth deep cleaned with scaling and root planing but I also need all four of my wisdom teeth removed. I have no major problems with the wisdom teeth except they are making it harder for me to clean my back teeth and I believe have caused a crossbite issue. Otherwise, they are all completely erupted and have been over 10 years now. The good news is that they have small roots so I am hoping that this will help with the removal and healing process for me. I'm wondering which procedure I should have done first? The cleaning or the wisdom removal? I am also interested in invisialign to straighten my crossbite issue, but I am saving that for last. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Thanks for your inquiry,The ideal treatment plan would be for you to have your deep cleaning done first followed by extractions of your 3rd molars. You can even have them done at the same appointment, since you''''re already anesthetized for the deep cleaning. I do this for my patients routinely. Invisalign is a fantastic treatment modality, we do a number of them. In fact, we were the top producing office in the phoenix metro area in 2nd quarter of 2008. Please visit our site: www.smilesbydrjafari.com or call 480-722-1200 to schedule your complimentry examination appointment. I''''m confident that our fees are very competetive, it will be worth your drive. Thanks.

Good Afternoon. Having your wisdom teeth out before or after scaling is dependant upon your particular situation. If you have a lot of tartar and bone loss, you may want the scaling completed first to alleviate as much bacteria as possible before removing the wisdom teeth. If the tartar level is moderate, not too much bleeding when brushing/flossing, you may want to have the wisdom teeth removed first. In this order, you can be certain that the hygienist does a great job in the molar region with the wisdom teeth already gone. Hope this helps, if our office is in a convenient location for you, I welcome you to take a look at our website and call to make an appointment.Troy Gombert, DDS480-899-4308

Thanks for your inquiry. In most cases we can remove wisdom teeth at the same time we do the deep cleaning. This limits your appointments and the number of times you need to get numb. Invisalign is a great option. But there have been many advances in cosmetic dentistry that can really enhance your smile. Please give our office a call for a free consultation. Have a great day!602.954.8200Sameet Koppikar, DDS

Well, generally I prefer to remove problem teeth first, that is to say teeth that are causing pain and have deteriorated. however if the 3rd molar removal is more of an elective procedure then I would suggest that your periodontal treatment be performed first to gain better gingival health. If your gingival tissues are in better health then the likelyhood of any healing problems post operatively are minimized. Good Luck, Dr. Velasco
