Case Description
At 35 I had full mouth extractions and dentures. I am now 51. I have never been able to wear my lower denture because it felt like it went too far back in my mouth. Also, when my dentist fitted me, he made me bite down differently than my normal bite, basically making me bite with my lower jaw pushed back. He said that should be my normal bite and that I needed to have my jaw broken and realigned. I do not intent to have my jaw realigned! Can't I get dentures made that will line up according to my natural bite? Besides the lower denture feeling too big for my mouth, it never felt lined up correctly with my upper denture, because of the bite. I know there is significant bone loss in the lower, and I've actually done quite well without wearing it! I used to try to sleep with the lowers to get used to them, but I couldn't even do that! The upper denture has always fit just fine. I would like to give it another chance, and get all new... I'm a little relunctant to pay alot for the lower, if I still won't be able to wear them, but I want to make sure I get a good new upper. Should I look for a dentist with their own denture clinic or a specialist? Any suggestions? I am a female in South Chandler. I would drive to any area in Phoenix to have a dentist that I liked. Cost is a factor, but I also have Aetna Dental PPO that pays 40% I think. Thanks!

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

I recommend you see a prosthodontist. Dr. Mark Montana is in Tempe and will be relatively close, but don''''t expect the new set to be as cheap as your first set. One thing is for sure, it will be done right! Good Luck!!!

If you have severe bone loss, your lower denture will never be stable because there is less surface area for retention and due to no supporting ridge. You may need an overdenture, which is a denture stabilized by mini-implants. 4 mini-implants are needed along with new complete lower denture.

I am a Prosthodontist, as someone had recommended to see, and I agree. Alot of what you are talking about is normal and a lot isn''''''''t. I believe you need to have a comprehensive exam and proper diagnosis to address these issue. Yes, the fees will be slightly more than a general dentist but in the end it should be something you can wear. If you would like to come in for a free consultation call my office and set up an appointment so I can evaluate your situation.

Hello! I was interested to read of your situation and feel that there is certainly "hope" for you in having a good, comfortable denture that also feels like a natural bite. Clearly it is difficult to assess completely via email; however, I do work extensively with denture cases. My first year as a dentist was spent with an onsite denturist. I now have my own office in S. Chandler and we do not have an onsite denturist but, due to the type and number of denture cases we complete, I work closely with an excellent lab that I have full confidence in and I feel is the best lab to do any denture work with. They work very individually with each patient. Aetna generally allows 1-4 limited exam/consultations per year on most of their policies which allows you to be seen for a "problem-focused" visit that is generally covered at 100% by your insurance. This visit allows us to take pictures, take xrays, and make an overall assessment of your needs and determine how and if I could be the best person to help. We are providers of Aetna PPO insurance and would be happy to verify your financial options with your insurance coverage.Impressions Dental (my office) is located on the NW corner of Riggs and Cooper Rd in S. Chandler. Our website is www.ImpressDental.com and our phone is (480) 814-8888. Should you be interested in setting up an initial visit, please ask to speak with Renee or Sonja.I look forward to possibly meeting you and wish you the best!Dr. Kelly B. Wettstein
