How do I find out (without calling every dentist in the book) who performs the laser cleaning procedure? I hear that the laser treatment is better for a variety of reasons. I can't handle that whole scraping experience.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

There are a couple of ways to find out. Most dentists that are doing that procedure will advertise it on their website. So searches on Google may help. Also, there is an organization called the Academy of Laser Dentistry which may have a list of dentists in the area. Their website is www.laserdentistry.org. As a side note, you may want to be a little careful with doing laser cleanings. I have seen a number of patients who have had "laser cleanings" done and there is still a lot of tartar left under the gums. I think sometimes dentists buy the expensive laser and then they have to find ways to use it so that it pays for itself. Even if it gets used in ways it probably wasn''''t intended for. And there are other ways than the scraping method to getting your teeth clean. Most of the newer ultrasonic devices are fabulous for tartar removal without that horrible "scraping" feeling we all hate. Good luck in your search. If you have any trouble finding someone, give me a call and I can see if I can help you find someone.Kris

I agree w/ Kris. Be careful about "laser cleanings". There aren''''t enough long term studies to show that it is more effective than the "scraping". Conventional cleanings are uncomfortable for some patients - but at least we know we are removing all the buildup around the teeth. I use a laser mostly for cosmetic treatment to re-contour a patients gingiva - but I would not trust a laser to clean my own teeth.Email me if you have further questions - Doc@biltmoredentalcenter.com

Good afternoon. The laser you are talking about is a different laser than the one that is discussed above. I have a diode laser like the above doctors, but this is not the right laser for the type of cleaning you are discussing. You can try Dr. Honigman at 480-899-8668, he is a periodontist (gum doctor) and I know that he has the laser you are discussing. I do agree with the above dentists though, that if you need a good deep cleaning, it is hard to beat the ultrasonic scalers that use vibration and water. Nontheless, call Dr. Honigman''''s office in regards to the laser.Hope this helps.
