Case Description
I recently had an extraction (30 I think) and during that visit it was decided that 31 and 29 would be crowned with a bridge in between. I was advised that Lava was the way to go. Now I'm looking at about $3500. I believe it was about $1000 a piece for the crowns, $500 for the pontic, and the rest was spent on bone graft, gas, and crown work.
I wonder if I was sold the premium package since these are teeth in the back, I'm not worried so much about the difference in look between the standard and Lava. Also, I've had some pain with one of the teeth to be crowned I'd hate to blow all this $, just to need a root canal and recrowning a year or so down the road.
What furthered my worries is now I'm being quoted Arestin at about $70/site (not tooth) for a total of another $2500.
From Googling around, it seems the Lava crowns were in line price wise, but I looks like the Arestin is almost double what I'm seeing online. I'm no cash cow, and don't know what to do!

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

You may want a second opinion to simply compare apples to apples. If you were my patient I would recommend one if you were hesitant with my plan for you. There is tremendous satisfaction helping a patient, but life is too short to make a decision that could be a lose lose in the long run. Feel free to call us for a free consultation, we offer them to any patient who simply needs more information or a second opinion. You really have nothing to lose and there is absolutely no pressure to come see us for a look. I would go with a metal reinforced bridge in the posterior in my mouth---they can look great, have a great track history, and cost is slightly less---a win, win, win!Erik Svans DDS

As you can see I''''m a prosthodontist, which means I have a specialty degree in restorative dentistry. First of all I wouldn''''t put a Lava bridge in that part of your mouth what so ever. The failure rate will be high. Then next question would be -why not an implant? They are very sucsessful and you don''''t need to touch the adjacent teeth. As far as arestin goes I believe we charge $50 for the first site and $35 for each additional site.I would rec. that you call my today for a consultation. You only get one set of teeth.

Good Morning. The price quoted for LAVA is average. To do the bridge in the standard porcelain fused to metal, you are still looking at about $900 a tooth. Depending on the status of #29 and #31, you may have the option of doing an implant as opposed to a bridge for about the same fee...something to consider. As far as Arestin goes, $70 a site might be steep, but I am more concerned with how many sites are getting treatment. At $2500, that means you have about 35 sites getting Arestin. I would definitely get a second opinion on this.Let us know if we can help you.Troy Gombert, DDS PC
